about BEHIND THE LENS
Photography for me is like wearing a pair of jeans, they’ve gotta fit for the mood or occasion. I’ve got jeans that I wear if I’m going out somewhere nice, jeans which I wear when just hanging out and a pair which, well they may not look all that, but they're comfy.
I try and get that sense in the photographs I make. Yes I make photographs. Taking a photo involves just turning up, aiming the camera and pressing the button.
When I make a photo, I try to consider everything I can see, not just through the viewfinder. I concern myself with everything that is there. Do I want it in the photo? Should there be something else in view that may enhance the subject? How is the light falling? Do I want it to fall as it does?
Those are a few of the questions going on in my head.
I always try to visit the location of the planned shoot prior to the actual date, be it, a wedding, a social event or a corporate shoot. Meeting and having an informal chat with my clients prior to the day is part of my service. This is very important to my whole approach. It’ll allow me a clearer idea of what I’m expecting to achieve. It helps me be comfortable, which, helps my clients feel comfortable, making it a little easier for me to do my job, perhaps making it enjoyable for them.
